I believe that both ethos and logos come more naturally to me. One thing that I try to be intentional about in ministry is making sure that I am vulnerable with my audience. I truly believe that the best way to do ministry is by first building some sort of connection with the person that you are trying to minister to. I have found that people are more open to listen if they are able to connect with you in some way. On the other hand, I find that pathos does not come as easily for me. I tend to struggle with showing empathy towards people. This is something that I have to try and remind myself to focus on.
The first thing that comes to mind is not necessarily a teaching method, but I believe that it shows Jesus using these three aspects. In Matthew 14:13-21 Jesus can be seen using these aspects. For instance, it mentions that Jesus had compassion for these people and he healed their sick.[1] Jesus also goes on to feed them all. I believe that these both made it to where the people absolutely knew that they could trust Jesus.
One youth activity that I always enjoyed was when we would have one person where a blindfold, and then another person would lead them to a prize. They had to try and focus onto the person who is guiding them while the rest of the group would make noise to try and get them to go a different direction. This all tied in with the idea of faith, and how we must stay focused on the guidance of the Spirit, and there will always be things that are trying to throw us off. As silly as this activity sounds, it was something that really helped me understand faith.
